Specialties:
Contemporary Vocals: With my fundamental techniques based firmly in line with classical norms, it is in style and expression where I choose to deviate. My decision to focus on a more contemporary form stylistically is informed by a belief that every student of mine owes it to themselves to express themselves in as natural and personal a manner as possible. This approach clashes head-first with the tradition of classical singing where rigidity and compliance to a uniform style is not only encouraged, but expected. My aim is for each singer to learn to use the vocal qualities that they're born with, while executing their performance by marrying good technique with self-expression.
Qualifications:
Grade 8 Trinity College London Rock School Merit Certificate: Not only do I hold this, the highest certificate for this course, but over the years I have tutored scores of students through the various levels... and am fully qualified to take a student through any of the eight certificate exams.
Four years' teaching experience: Through teaching in a formal school environment (St. Stithian's College) and an informal private centre (Swallow15 Music School), I have developed a keen sense of adaptability that allows me to work with any individual. To date, I have taught classes in English, Afrikaans and Sesotho to beginners, intermediates and professional musicians ranging from as young as seven years old to adulthood.
