LEBO MOCHUDI
First and foremost, I am a lover of Music... and the life I have chosen ensures that my daily quota in this regard is sufficiently met.
However, my horizons expand across the board, from my early years as a journalist, through performing as a singer and actor in the theatre, to my current incarnation as a writer and recording/performing artist. But first I served time at Rhodes University, Grahamstown... in for English, Drama and Journalism, but managing to sneak in a healthy diet of jam-sessions on Grahamstown's live music scene.
Having been bitten by the bug at University, and deciding that the news of the world were best reported by another, it was only natural for me to make my first tentative tread-marks on a bigger stage. That stage was the Barnyard Theatre group across South Africa where I came to grips with the finer nuances of being a live performing artist.
The next major stride in my journey came in the form of Voodoo Child, a group of friends and musicians that came together in Johannesburg with the intention of simply 'jamming', and being a professional band for seven years (with an EP and a full-length album under their belt to boot). Supplementing this practical application and keeping me honest is my ongoing position as a Singing Teacher and Vocal Coach both privately and at institutions such as SAHETI School (.South African Hellenic Educational and Technical Institute) and St. Stithian's College.
Following this funk rock era, I convened with a pair of childhood spiritual brothers to form a Hip Hop group called The Assembly, while also joining experimental rock outfit, Evening Machine... both of which remain active to this day.
The years in the music industry have seen my repertoire expand to in-studio vocal directing, a service I have provided for the likes of internationally-acclaimed rapper Tumi Molekane of Tumi and The Volume fame, and South African Music Award winner Maxhoba. A detour into final mix engineering introduced me to voice overs and voice acting, skills that I continue to develop as they now make up the bulk of my professional work... alongside the relatively new skill of Muppeteer/puppeteer.
The journey so far finds me in the here and now, with a lifetime somewhat unfairly relegated to the few sentences in the paragraphs above. To restore parity, and to make your visit worth your while, I've taken some time in the pages on this site to give some more details into the professional life and times of Lebohang Hendrik Molema Mochudi.
